Project GigaHubs

Projects Gigahubs was a government initiative aiming to boost broadband access and speeds in rural areas and connect thousands of rural public sector buildings including schools, libraries, and other public buildings across the UK.

In October 2022, Leicestershire County Council secured funding from government to install full fibre broadband infrastructure to 43 public sector sites in Leicestershire. The initial phase of infrastructure delivery began in July 2023 and the final phase concluded in March 2024.

The project connected 30 schools, 7 libraries, 3 waste sites, and 3 depots in rural locations, where fibre connectivity would likely have not been provided commercially due to costs and/or access.

The below interactive map details all sites included within our Gigahubs project. Hover over the coloured dots on the map to see the details for each site.
