Learn how to use a smartphone or tablet effectively for a range of everyday digital tasks. This beginners course will introduce you to using the most popular digital devices.

This one-off 3-hour beginners course will enable you to use mobile devices with more confidence. You will learn how to adjust the device settings, understand security and start to explore a range of device apps. Learn to: explore settings and connect to Wi-Fi, open, close and use existing apps, find new apps, personalise a smartphone or tablet, take photos and videos, and be more aware of a range of online safety approaches.

The course will include demonstrations, practical activities and discussions to get you to see the potential of mobile digital devices. Your progress and achievements will be recognised and recorded throughout your course in several ways. For example: practical activities, verbal feedback from your tutor, practising and completing exercises.

Throughout your course your tutor will give feedback on your progress and you will document your achievement through activities such as quizzes, worksheets and in group discussions.

Learners with their own smartphones/tablets are encouraged to bring them in fully charged and be prepared to connect to Wi-Fi. Tablets are provided for use within the session for those that don’t have a mobile device.

Digital Skills for Beginners (Melton)

This short practical course will take you through the first steps of using a computer to gain key digital skills. This is an ideal course for beginners with little or no experience of using a computer.

During this classroom-based course you will learn to log onto a computer, use a keyboard and mouse, start to navigate and use the Windows system, access the Internet, and carry out some basic searches for information.

Your progress and achievements will be recognised and recorded throughout your course in several ways. For example: practical tasks, written and verbal feedback from your tutor, practising and completing exercises and/or a learner diary.
