This accessibility statement applies to the Superfast Leicestershire website

This website is run by Leicestershire County Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

• navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
• navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
• listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
• we’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

• The text will not reflow in a single column when you change the size of the browser window
• You cannot modify the line height or spacing of text
• Most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
• Alt text is missing from some of the images used
• Some of our online forms are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard
• You cannot skip to the main content when using a screen reader
• There is low contrast between the text and background colours
• Links to documents such as PDFs and Word are not accessible
• Some heading levels are not formatted in the most effective way
• Some links do not have visible names to tell users what they are clicking on to

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

We plan to make these elements of the website accessible as soon as possible.

Navigation and accessing information

• There isn’t a ‘skip to content’ option.
• It isn’t always obvious when navigating using a keyboard where you were on the screen (link focus) e.g. case study and register for notifications pages
• The tabbing order of could be improved. – For some elements is took 2 tabs to get past them – e.g. The ‘Interim better broadband scheme’ article on the home page

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents. By September 2020, we plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 22 September 2020. It was last reviewed on 22 September 2020.

This website was last tested on 7 September 2020. We did our own testing using the Lighthouse and WAVE accessibility tools. We also conducted manual testing exercises.

We tested a number of pages that included a wide range of functionality including videos, maps and online forms.
